Chess Time - Multiplayer Chess App Reviews

Bombarded with ads

The app seemed good until you start getting crushed with ads. So many that you cant even move a piece because as soon as your a few moves into a game, when your finger touches the screen you are transported to the App Store. Even after you download the app it still does it

Popups and malware behavior

This was a good chess app until it started spam opening the app store and initiating popups you cant dismiss. It is taken over by malware or is malware now.

Ad Glitch

Seems like every time I go into a game and try to move a piece I get redirected to the App Store without me even touching an ad. This needs to be fixed.

The best chess app Ive found.

Good solid app. Can play against friends from either an iPad or an iPhone, or find other players in your area very easily. The app scales to look good on both devices. The only thing keeping my review from being 5 stars is a couple of glitches where the keyboard can cover some UI elements with no way to dismiss it. That problem only seems to happen during the initial setup and can be fixed by restarting the app. Very minor.

Nice before ADS!!!!

BEFORE RIDICULOUS ADS GLITCH this Was the Best chess app in the market...period. Fix this and my rating will change... been playing for years and this is my worst experience

Basic graphics but great features

Has everything you need. Love the analyze feature.

Exploits exist apparently

I was playing with another person and about to finish the game and my bishop wont take their queen. It is an entirely legal move and yet it wont register. I have flagged the game as "possible cheat" and the game hasnt been reviewed. I realize there is no liability for them to review the games for cheaters per the TOS but this isnt much fun.

Enjoy but too many ads

Too many back to back ads popping you out of games and actually completely out of app into apple App Store. Very poor business

DONT UPDATE IF HAVE GAMES IN PLAY

Updated to latest version, automatically cancelled all my games in play, counting them as losses and costing me 50+ rating points

Best Chess Correspondence App

I have used ChessByPost, chesspresso, and many others, but this is the best by far. It has the most features.

Awsome!!

Been playing on the app for years. Its great.

Rating

This is an abandoned app

Game play

Working good so far. I am using it to help my nephew become a stronger player and havent had a problem with it yet so I am satisfied.

Lol $7.99? Really?

Guys...come on. Lets be real here. Your chess app in one in a million out there on the App Store. I would have paid $1.99 MAYBE $2.99 for the pro version, but definitely not $8. Great app yes. Absolutely without a doubt. You have combined chess with social aspects like chat and the ability to add friends, this is brilliant! I get it, tons of hard work, hours of under-appreciated programming, bug fixes, stack overflows, under calculated algorithms, but this leap forward update is only going to lower your active member count because you guys went about it the wrong way. Watch the dinner scene again from The Social Network. I thought every entrepreneur has seen that film at least a dozen times. If you havent, go watch it again and realize where you guys turned to the dark side. Its chess, not the next Twitter (which is also free by the way). You need to figure out a way to make this app enjoyable like it was without obstructing our concentration (its chess, remember???) by not having banner ads displayed across the bottom. Just do it, your future company relies on you.

Works good

Works good, playing now with several friends who live in different cities. Has some nice features so you can play out your strategies.

Great app

Introduced to me by a friend from work. Now I have 5 of my friends playing. Easy to use & a great learning tool. Love this app. 5 stars for me. Undo button is the only thing missing. By mutual agreement.

Excellent

Great app for playing with your friends. Unobtrusive ads and reliable connections!

One minor complaint

I have one minor issue. I wish you could set games to have shorter time limits for moves for when you want to play a quick game. Otherwise, a great game!

What about your opponent using a computer?

My nephew just referred me to this site; so, in fairness, I dont have any playing experience with it yet . However, now that I know the format, that the games can be spread out up to a week or more ... One of my primary concerns is... how do I know if my opponent isnt using chess engine software (Houdini, Fritz, Stockfish, a free powerful open source engine ), to analyze the current position, him/her to move... and use that best computer move?! Ill still give this app a chance shortly, but the above would be my main objection. Secondly; There are other free Internet places play, with multiplatform Java interfaces , where you can expand the board to as large as your viewing screen...and have a lot more features that are free, and no ads, then this one... There have been many complaints about the scoring/rating system used here.. One other free site, which I wont mention here, has no such issues, and has very accurate scoring systems... The server will automatically the declare a draw if there was a threefold repetition, etc. (after you enter the draw button to inquire)... And you have the option of playing rated or unrated games... So this app isnt the only horse in the race so to speak; and before anyone crowns this as the best app around, as some reviewers have stated, Im a highly experienced Internet chess player... playing on both PC and IOS platforms, with Java interfaces that are multi - platform So... Not so!
